Encore Health Resources Employees Team To Help Houston's Disabled

Nearly 100 percent of Houston-based Encore Health Resources’ employees devoted their afternoon to show how the power of teamwork can translate into true benefits for communities everywhere. The approximately 300 Encoreans who had gathered from across the country for their company’s third annual retreat on the shores of Lake Conroe applied their collective ingenuity and energy in a spirited teambuilding session to assemble fifty, safety-inspected wheelchairs. The wheelchairs were immediately donated to help American veterans and other Houston disabled presently suffering from serious mobility issues. The wheelchairs were delivered just hours after the teambuilding session to:

  • Disabled American Veterans (DAV), a 1.2 million-member non-profit charity dedicated to building better lives for America’s disabled veterans and their families
  • The Huntsville Memorial Hospital, Huntsville, TX, a Joint Commission-accredited, not-for-profit acute care community hospital that, since 1927, has provided charitable health care services, delivering quality healthcare to the residents of Walker County and the surrounding communities, and
  • The United Way of Greater Houston, devoted to increasing the organized capacity of people to care for themselves and others and to mobilize its community to make lasting improvements in critical needs areas.

The 50th wheelchair was presented as a gift from Encore to a conference-center employee working at the retreat whose own chair had recently been damaged. “Every member of our Encore team is committed to core values that guide our work, and these include a belief in the power of teamwork to transform great ideas into improvements for both industries and our communities,” said Dana Sellers, Chief Executive Officer, Encore Health Resources. “An important part of teamwork, however, is remembering to say “thanks” to those who make our lives safer and richer. As we teamed to build and donate our 50 wheelchairs, we couldn’t think of better examples than our United States Veterans, our Houston-area healthcare providers, the United Way of Greater Houston – and those individuals who on any given day can reach out and touch our hearts.” In recent months, Encore Health Resources has earned recognition as one of Modern Healthcare’s Best Places to Work for the third year running and as one of Houston’s fastest growing high-technology companies. Encore’s employee base has grown from three in early 2009 to more than 300 today.
